The Americas Joint Attack Program

#1

Post by Mitteleuropa »

The Salish Confederation and Westervelt Aviation has made public a joint development program with the nations of Argentina, Colombia, and San Romolo, to develop a new Attack aircraft to replace aging airframes in current service. The AW-7 Atlatl, as it will be designated in Salish service, is designed as an all weather attack aircraft with reduced radar visibility compared to previous conventional attack aircraft. While details are being withheld during the development period for security reasons, the Salish Confederation has confirmed the aircraft will possess an internal weapons bay, reduced RCS, a crew of 2, Supersonic capability, and with range and payload exceeding the A-6, which it is replacing in Salish service.

Westervelt Aerospace has stated a desire to offer the aircraft for sale to other nations, though priority production will be given to the 4 nations involved with the development program. Westervelt has also opened the possibility for future variants, such as for carrier based operations or electronic warfare. The Confederation is enthusiastic about working with other American nations for the projects, with each nation providing their own industry strengths to bring forward a better product for all. Westervelt Aerospace will be contributing to the Design & Construction of the Fuselage, Main Wing, Engines & Cockpit for the FW-7, with other elements of the aircraft being differed to partner nations for Design and/or Construction. Final assembly of all Salish aircraft, as well as any export aircraft, will be conducted in Seattle on production lines diverted from commercial aircraft. The first prototype is currently under construction.

The Republic of South Africa expresses interest in purchasing a small amount of such an aircraft, as currently no dedicated attack aircraft is in service with the South African Air Force. While of course little is known about this project, ARMSCOR, the South African Procurement Agency expresses interest especially in both its speed and reduced radar visibility.

The members of the Joint Attack Program have unanimously approved sale of the aircraft to the Republic of South Africa. The Republic will receive periodic updates about the program going forward, as a customer of the program. Though the aircraft will be built according to the needs of developmental partner nations, some consideration will be given to South African needs and desires, as they present themselves.

Westervelt Aerospace inquires the Republic about a more concrete estimate of aircraft needed for the order, as forward planning of production orders will streamline the delivery process. Only a limited number of aircraft can be completed each month, and as such, planning will be required to determine production logistics between all partner nations.
