Balkan Security

Post by Magnolia League »

Given recent diplomatic developments in the Mediterranean arena which have raised minor alarm in the halls of Belgrade, Foreign Minister Edvard Kardelj has reached out to the government of the @Kingdom of Transylvania, inviting them to discuss some security concerns regarding the Balkan peninsula.

Transylvanian Foreign Minister Timotei Nicolescu would be happy to come to Yugoslavia to assuage any concerns Transylvania's neighbors may have.

Nicolescu would be awaited in Belgrade, where he'd be escorted from the airport to the Foreign Ministry Building in the heart of the city by a protected convoy. He'd be greeted at the Ministry by the State Secretary for Balkan Affairs who would handle the typical formalities before escorting the Minister into a small conference room in the building, where Kardelj would await his arrival.

"Minister Nicolescu, what an honor it is to meet you at last. Please do take a seat, we have much to discuss. I imagine you may be able to predict why I've called this meeting."

"The honor is mine Minister Kardelj." Nicolescu answers, taking his seat. "I'm lead to to believe Belgrade has some concerns over recent Mediterranean developments, though I put little stock in rumors, I'm sure you'll tell me all about it."

Kardelj nodded in confirmation. "Indeed even the most fictitious rumors often tend to carry at least a whisper of truth. The alliance between two of the premier military powers in the Mediterranean hasn't exactly concerned us, as we've never had any serious strife with either of the relevant nations, however it has certainly lead us to consider perhaps building on said blemish-less track record by establishing some security guarantees of our own." Kardelj opened a manila folder labelled with a big white sticker, dark red text printed on top - STROGA DIPLOMATSKA TAJNA. From the folder he pulled a short, and relatively simple draft of a diplomatic agreement, placing a copy in front of his counterpart. "We would like to propose that the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Kingdom of Transylvania enter into a pact of non-aggression."

Nicolescu scans over the document quickly, unsurprised by the contents. "Dare I say I'll be back home before the end of the day. These terms are perfectly acceptable, I would be pleased to sign this on behalf of the King."

The Minister smiled in delight, and a bit of relief, at Nicolescu's answer. "Well then, no use in beating around the bush, is there?" He reached with his right hand to a rubber stamp beside the paperwork and pressed it cleanly against the bottom of the page, between the two signature spots. "Let's make this official." He then pulled a pen from his breast pocket and signed, passing both the agreement and pen across the table.
