Bora Bora workers strike

#1

Post by California Republic »

A group of Chinese immigrants laborers in Bora Bora, working at a major shipbuilding center, have organized a strike under a new labor leader calling for the recognition of Labor Unions on the island of Bora Bora from the government, and additionally for increased protections for organized labor. Furthermore this new leader, a young Xi Kung, calls for workers across the islands to do the same, and grind the economy to a halt, to secure the rightful civil powers of organized labor against the bourgeois. In several speeches at public places in front of crowds on the Island Xi calls directly for worker ownership of the means of production and appeals to the Soviet Union as a model of progress.

Always cognizant of how Chinese are treated overseas, the Qi Empire begins monitoring the event for any potential rights violations against Chinese people. The government doesn't particularly care one way or the other with regards to unions and labour rights, but they do care about Chinese people, even if they left China. No further action is taken at this time, although a decent amount of money is set aside in the event that these labourers need financial support.

News reports out of Bora Bora indicate that Chinese National and Communist Revolutionary Xi Kung has been arrested in his home last night on charges of Treason and Sedition for plotting a violent overthrow of the duly elected New Caledonian government. At the time of his arrest , Xi Kung was scheming with other known Communist Revolutionaries and was found in possession of a large cache of weapons, explosives, and documentation indicating a plot to storm Bora Bora's capital building. During the gendarmerie raid, several of Xi Kung's accomplices fired on the gendarmes, wounding one officer and ultimately resulting in the death of all six accomplices in the ensuing firefight, some believed to have also been Chinese Nationals. Xi Kung will be transported to New Caledonia and tried for his crimes in the near future.

Greatly concerned about the treatment of other Chinese nationals in Bora Bora following the raid, the Chinese government sends Jin Chin, a reporter for a Chinese news agency, to Bora Bora to investigate. Upon arrival, she would begin seeking out local Chinese immigrants to speak with them about life in Nouvelle Calédonie, and about potential mistreatment due to their ethnicity. She would also attempt to get an interview with Xi Kung, if possible, to hear his side of the story prior to the court case.
