The Tercentenary of the Commonwealth

#1

Post by The British Commonwealth »

BBC broadcast: 7th of January 1978.

“James Fletcher, the current Lord Protector of the British Commonwealth gave a speech today, marking the beginning of the celebrations for the Tercentenary of this nation.”

“He spoke of unity in the face of challenges throughout our history and a beginning of a wider eye towards the world. We shall now show his call to valour and intentions of the following years.”

‘I stand before you all, humbled by the strength of character our commonwealth has shown despite the trials and tribulations of the past centuries. Wars abroad and religious struggle abound but we stayed the course and showed the world our resolve.’

‘Our dependance on external nations for power and fuel shall be squashed, as our tidal power plants make headway, as does the Infrastructure plans to connect Ireland and Scotland, unifying our isles for the first time since the last ice age. All this you shall do and bring us further into a true independence from those who would seek to puppet us!’

“I say to you all, that the time of passivity and neutrality is over, that we must seek to ensure the security and future of our nation, of all nations that cry out for stability and guidance. Our northern neighbours suffer under callous and uncaring overlords despite supposed independence from their continental rulers. They cry out for the light of God and Democracy to allow them to reach their truest potential and By God, we shall seek to do just that!”

‘That was Lord Protector, James Fletcher, speaking out against the occupation of Iceland and Greenland. Decisive language to be sure, but does this mean war in the north? The build up of naval and aerial assets over the past decade would indicate such.’

End of broadcast segment.
