Major Historic Events

#1

Post by Wabanaki Confederacy »

Just like in our world there were major events that occurred in history. These events may not have happened like in our world, they may not have involved the same nations, or even during the same time periods, but they are likely to have happened. These events are listed below, and are based on major real world events that occurred in history. Events before the 1500s have not been included, as they are more vague and less likely to have influence in the world overall.

Players are encouraged to reply to this thread listing which of the major events your nation participated in. Your nation does not have to have been involved with any of them, or it could have been involved in all. The extent of your involvement is up to you. Players can reply with a simple 'yes' or 'no', or can go into depth with their involvement. For the more recent events, players are encouraged to say how they were involved/affected. Players may use these events as a base for building the history of their nations in their factbooks if they would like.

Was your nation involved in the colonization of the New World (1500s 1000s): In the early 1000s Norse explorers, led by Thorfinn Karlsefni, landed in what they called Hop, known by the Wabanaki as Elsipogtog (IRL Miramichi). The Norse established a small colony in the region, bringing their animals and families and establishing homes. They stayed for around 25 years, during which they shared technological advances and traded with the Wabanaki. But in the end the Norse returned to Greenland, leaving behind diseases, cattle, and sheep. It took the Wabanaki nearly 500 years, but they recovered from the diseases and were able to adopt to the Norse technology and animals, incorporating them into their way of life and culture. From then on the Wabanaki had direct interactions with the Europeans as they arrived in the New World.
Was your nation involved in the Reformation (1500s): No
Was your nation part of any Colonial Wars (1500s - 1800s): The Wabanaki actively interacted with European nations attempting to colonize the region. They traded actively, whilst also fighting against European settlement at other times.
Was your nation part of the Wars of Religion (1600s): No
Was your nation a colony that fought for independence, or were they affected by one (1700s on): The Wabanaki had close relations with many of the European colonial nations, supporting some while opposing others. The independence of some colonies benefited the Wabanaki, as it meant less threats by European colonial powers.
How was your nation affected by a major peasant uprising and subsequent imperial figure attempting to spread liberty and equality in Europe (late 1700s/early 1800s): The Wabanaki Confederacy was not affected, since they had no interests in Europe at the time.
Was your nation involved in a major European war between at least two major powers (1800s): No
Was your nation involved in, or affected by, a conference or war to decide who settles Africa (mid 1800s): No
How was your nation involved in major worldwide conflict #1 Ethnic Tension (early 1900s): The Wabanaki Confederacy stayed neutral during the first war, avoiding involvement in what was seen as a European conflict.
Was the ideology of your nation challenged, and if so, did the ideology take over the nation (1900s): The traditional ideology of the Wabanaki Confederacy was challenged by the increased growth of capitalism and industrialization. Some protests occurred with fierce debates amongst Wabanaki elders, and in the end it was decided to stay on the path of tradition and local well being over capitalism and industrialization.
How did the economic depression in the years following the war affect your nation (~1930s): As a nation that shuns capitalism for the most part and is not overly urbanized, the economic depression didn't affect the Wabanaki Confederacy very much. Though the import of certain manufactured goods suffered during this time.
How was your nation involved in major worldwide conflict #2 Radical Ideology (mid 1900s): The Wabanaki did their best to stay neutral during this conflict as well.
