Japan Air Self Defense Forces (JSDF)
Force-Organization
The JSADF Operates 740 Aircraft and has over 380,000 Personnel. the JASDF Operates 251 Fighters, the most Numerous model is the F-2 Viper Zero (108 F-2A, 24 F-2B), followed by F-15JX (72), F-15JE (24) The remaining 23 aircraft are experimental platforms assigned to the Advanced Weapons School in south Hokkaido.
Japans Fighters are split into three major Defense Commands. Home Islands Aerospace Defense Command, Sea Of Japan Aerospace Defense Command, and Pacific Aerospace Defense Command. Each of these commands is responsible for Japans integrated air defence network and are the principle command aparatous for nearly 100% of Japans combat aircraft, with the exception of those naval aviation assets assigned to the Daiichi Kōkū Kantai of the Fleet Kidō Butai.
Each command Operates Missile Interception Wings, which are divided into three ADF Squadrons (Air-Defense Fighter Squadron), and ADF Squadron has 12 Fighter aircraft split into two 3 4 aircraft flights. ADF Squadrons are typically operating the F-2A Viper Zero, with the F-2B being a two seat training aircraft. Japans F-15JX's to exist in Missile Interception Wings, but are more typically found in Air Patrol Wings, where they conduct long patrols across Japans vast sea lanes connecting its thousands of Islands. Attached to each Wing is additionally an early warning & command and control squadron, which is typically made up of an AWACS aircraft and two supporting Tankers.
Each Command also operates Patrol Wings, which are typically made up of two Fighter Patrol Squadrons each consisting of 12 aircraft split into 6 2 aircraft flights, typically the F-15JX, and two Maritime Defense squadrons, each with a 2 aircraft flight of P-1 Maritime Patrol aircraft, and a 2 aircraft flight of US-2 Flying Boats.
Currently, Japan's Aerospace Defense Commands between them operate 3 Missile Interception wings, one per command, and Three Patrol Wings, also one per command. The Remaining Aircraft in Japanese Arsenal, such as its F-15JE Kais can be found in one of two training wings, which each contain one wing of F-15JE Eagle Kai and F-2B Viper Zero two seat trainers.
The rest of Japans aircraft are largely made up of airlift platforms, Japans Airlift Command has 120 Kawasaki C-1 aircraft divided into 10 Tactical Airlift Squadrons each containing 12 aircraft. four are assigned to the Home Islands theater, 3 to the Sea of Japan Theater, and 3 to the Pacific Theater. Additionally, the heavier C-2's make up another 108 aircraft, from 9 strategic airlift squadrons, 3 being assigned to each theater. Japan operates six squadrons of Kawasaki P-1, making up a total of 36 maritime patrol aircraft in 6 aircraft squadrons. the US-2 Flying Boat also exists in equal numbers of squadron and total aircraft. The Remaining aircraft are Japans 14 AWACS platforms of which 3 are assigned to constant patrol with ADF Squadrons and the remaining 21 are split between 12 active aircrafts in 4 early warnings squadrons of 3 aircraft each and 11 on reserve status. Finally Japan operates 18 tanker aircraft, with 6 on constant assignment to ADF wings, 9 assigned to 3 separate squadrons of 3 aircraft each, and 3 in reserve status.
